Black summer prequel to Z Nation spinoff show review

Black Summer

Produced by The Asylum, Black Summer is a Netflix original series that acts as a companion prequel to SyFy’s now-cancelled Z Nation.

Z nation was a personal favorite of mine it was set about 3 years after a zombie outbreak and was about a team of survivors lead by a badass african american heroine Named  Lt. Roberta along with a bunch of savilians mainly Doc, Addi, 10K and others who came and went from the group who had the mission to try to get a Inmate named Murphy who had undergone experiments against his will to find a cure then survived several bites by zombies to a government facility to try to use his blood to make a cure. All while getting instructions from a man named Citizen Z who worked for the NSA through things like Phones Radios and at one point even a telecom at a fast food restaurant.

The show it's self was unlike any zombie show out there with it's levels of humor and mix of seriousness it was ooh most a parody of the genre for a lot of people tho others just seen it as a very different Zombie shoe.

Fans of Z Nation will recognize the term  “Black Summer” as a series reference that alludes to an extreme drought that gradually lead to the zombie apocalypse. It was something mentioned many times on the show but eluded to being so bad no one ever wanted to talk about and any time anyone tried they where immediately shut down by another character.

So unlike Z Nation — which begins well into a post-apocalyptic world overrun by zombies — this series takes it right from the top.

Black Summer followers survivors of a cataclysmic event who contend with zombies — and each other — to reach a military evacuation site. Jamie King  who you may recognize as Goldy from Sin City) stars as a mother named Rose was, torn from her daughter, only to embarks on a  journey, stopping at nothing to find her. Thrust alongside a small group of refugees, she must brave a hostile new world and make brutal decisions during the most deadly summer of a zombie apocalypse.

Black summer is completely different from Z nation I have read a few where disappointed that it did not hold the same humor Z nation did but in my opinion it was never suppose to. The way the characters referred to it in Z nation as such a horrific time that there was nothing funny about. The show it's self is very fast pass reminding me very much of Dawn of the dead and how that movie just threw you right into the action. It let's you know a lot of information through title cutscenes and went back in time quite a bit to follow other characters. So far it seems like Rose is the star but it seems to follow many characters and has no fear about killing anyone off much like R.R. Martin and Game of thrones No one is safe.

The show is very fast pace and will keep you pulled in I binge watched the hole thing in just 1 night. I found my self unable to pull away.

I am hoping there will be a season 2 of this where perhaps they will follow the journey of Ann Roses daughter through out this whole fiasco or even other survivors. I for one hope eventually they may even bring in some old cast members from Z nation and follow them in the early days of Black summer tho that is doubtful.

Ether way it was a awesome show and I loved i and I have loved reading that so far it is a huge hit and they are already talking about renewing it for a 2nd season.
