(Intro)
Lynne Kathryn Schulze was born Feb 9, 1954 Not much has been made public about where she is from or her child hood. I couldn't even find a Wiki Page for this long time missing person. But what is known is that in 1971 she was a freshman at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont and grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut. She was an avid outdoors person and spent many of her weekends exploring and hiking in New England. She frequently hitchhiked but always returned home. She was very close with her family and it was out of character for her to not be in touch.
On December 10, 1971 at 7:45 AM Lynne’s roommate left there room while Lynne was still fast asleep in her bed.
Later that after noon at 12:30 PM it was reported that Lynne was seen by a fellow student outside a building that housed the bus station and a local health food store, that was called "All Good Things", This was located on Court Street in Middlebury. She had went into All good things and bought a box of dried prunes and was seen eating them outside at the bus stop she had stated that she was going to New York, but the bus had already left. She was told another would be through around 5pm so Lynne walked back to campus with a fellow college student
Just 15 minutes later at 12:45 PM Lynne was seen by a friend and fellow student in her dorm room. The two had a final exam together at 1:00 PM. The friend tried to engage her about the upcoming exam but Lynne did not want to talk about the exam, she was described as some what distant and distracted the two started to head out the the exam but lyen started looking for her favorite pen. She complained that she could not find it. The friend told her she could borrow a pen but lyen insisted on going back to the dorm room to find her favorite pen.
1:00 PM rolled around the friend was in class taking her exam when she noticed that Lynne never showed up and did not take her final exam.
At 2:15 PM Lynne is seen standing on Court Street by another fellow college student. She was standing across from the bus station and the health food store. She was wearing A navy blue pullover sweater, a brown nylon ski parka, blue jeans and hiking boots. Her light brown hair and blue eyes sparkled in the sun light This was the last time Lynne Kathryn Schulze is ever seen.
At 1st it was speculated that perhaps she had ran off the New York as she had told the fellow student while standing at the bus stop that after noon but She left her identification, checkbook and all her personal belongings behind when she vanished. She may have been carrying $30 in cash with her. Campus security was alerted to her disappearance two days after she was last seen, but her parents were not notified for a week.
What took so long to notify the school and why did it take a hole week for the parents to find out?
Lynne had mentioned the idea of faking her own death and starting a hole new life prior to her disappearance, but her friends did not take her seriously. In the letters she wrote frequently to family and friends back home, she admitted she felt homesick and had considered withdrawing from school. However, she never indicated she was planning on dropping out of sight or leaving college before the autumn term was over, and she did register for spring semester classes. Which would suggest that she had planed to stay on at school.
Her relatives don't believe she was unusually distressed. She took her English Drama class seriously, had perfect attendance and studied hard for the final exam she never attended. Although her academic performance at Middlebury wasn't as good as it had been in high school, she wasn't failing any classes.
There were several possible sightings of Lynne after her disappearance, but none of them were confirmed. Several people made confessions of involvement in her case, but all of their statements turned out to be false.
Little evidence is available as to her fate, but Lynne's disappearance is considered suspicious and her family believes she died shortly after she was last seen.
In 2015, authorities announced they were looking at Robert Durst as a possible suspect in Lynne's disappearance. He and his wife, Kathleen, owned All the Good Things in 1971 the very store that Lynne had bought the prunes from and the last known place that she was seen alive.
Kathleen Durst Robert Dust's 1st wife disappeared from New York City in 1982, and Robert is considered the prime suspect in her case, but he has never faced charges connected to it.
Investigators have ruled him out as a suspect in the 1997 disappearance of Kristen Modafferi from San Francisco, California, but he's being considered in the disappearance of Karen Mitchell from Eureka, California that same year.
Robert was charged with the 2001 Texas homicide of Morris Black. He claimed he murdered Black in self-defense, and was acquitted in 2003. In 2015, he was charged with murder in the 2000 shooting death of Susan Berman.
In July 2012, police received an anonymous tip that Robert Durst owned a health food store in Middlebury around the time of Lynne's disappearance. It is thought he may have even been in town on the day of her disappearance. While Durst is not a suspect in Lynne's disappearance, police are investigating a possible link. They believe he is the most likely suspect tho he has never admitted to being responsible for her disappearance he has actually been questioned in several cases of missing collage aged girls from areas he has lived in through out his life most of these cases match the lay out of Lynne Kathryn Schulze case.
Both of Lynne's parents died in the 1990s, not ever finding out what happened to there daughter but her sister is still alive and hopes for a resolution in her disappearance. Her case remains unsolved.
