Jeremy Doland Bright was born May 25, 1972 Jeremy was born in Myrtle Point, Oregon For most of his early childhood, he lived in Myrtle Point, where he and his sister S’te (pronounced Estee) met the people who would become their closest friends. Unfortunately, their parents eventually separated, and he and his sister moved a hundred miles away to Grant’s Pass with his mother.

Jeremy  was a 14-year-old boy. Who loved basketball and spending time with his friends. Summers were especially special to Jeremy because it was a time when he could go back to his old hometown and visit his childhood friends.

It was late August, and Jeremy was busy attending the Coos County Fair in Myrtle Point, Oregon. He and his sister had been there without parental supervision. As most kids his age in 1986 where left to do things on there own, there parents thought they had nothing to worry about…

Jeremy Bright was a lot like other boys his age. He was creative and enjoyed drawing in his spare time. He was a talented basketball player as he was tall for his age and wore a size 13 shoe. He would have made an all star player one day.

Despite their parents’ separation, Jeremy and his sister looked forward to their favorite seasonal event: the Coos County Fair. The fair rolled into Myrtle Point every summer and was a week-long celebration. The festival had vendors, rides, games, and most importantly for Jeremy, it was an opportunity to see the friends he’d left behind.

Yet to 14-year-old Jeremy and his 9-year-old sister S’te, the fair was an event not to be missed. Their stepfather, Orville, even agreed to take care of them for the week of the fair, because it was so important to them. Their mother Diane agreed. And so, in the August of 1986, the two siblings headed back to Myrtle Point to go to the fair

Jeremy’s closest childhood friend was a young man named Johnny Fish. Fair time was the perfect opportunity to Johnny an the rest of his old friends  The Coos County Fair was in full swing. Johnny and Jeremy rode the rides, stuffed themselves on the fair food, and enjoyed the trip down memory lane with one another.

On August 13, at about 4:45 pm, Jeremy called his mother, Diane, from a payphone. He wanted to finalize the plan to pick he and his sister up in Myrtle Point on the 15th. He told her they were having a great time at the fair and she told him that he’d be back in Myrtle Point in two days. Later that night, Jeremy decided to visit his stepfather at his grandmother’s tavern in town…

It was only five hours later, around 9:40 PM, when Jeremy showed up at the local tavern. His grandmother owned the place, and his stepfather often hung out there to drink with his buddies. He caught up with the two and then asked his stepfather if he could borrow some money to use at the fair. His stepdad happily agreed, but that was the last night he ever saw Jeremy.

The next day, Thursday, August 14, Jeremy and his sister went back to the fair for the second time that week. At around 2 p.m. the siblings separated from each other, planning to meet back up again at 5 p.m. near the Ferris wheel on the fairgrounds. Jeremy was wearing a black windbreaker jacket and black Nike sneakers with red laces. The day came and went. At 5 p.m., S’te was waiting by the Ferris wheel, but Jeremy never reappeared…

Sure enough, on August 15, Jeremy’s mother arrived at his stepfather’s house to pick up her two children. The TV set was on and Jeremy’s house keys and wallet were sitting on the coffee table, along with the new watch he’d recently purchased. Her daughter had been there, but her son was nowhere to be found.

The following day, Jeremy’s mother called the police. His stepfather and grandmother had not seen him since that previous Thursday at the tavern. At first, as with most teenage disappearances, the authorities believed that Jeremy might have run away. Perhaps he wanted to join one of the carnival troupes that turned up for the Coos County Fair?

Sergeant Steve Dalton of the Coos County Sheriff’s Department was at the head of the investigation. From the start of the investigation, he followed the leads based on his hunch that the boy had run off to join the carnival. But after speaking to many family members and friends, he realized that Jeremy Bright wasn’t the type to just up and leave his family, especially not his 9 year old sister of whom he was very close too, without so much as a goodbye.

The fair ended on Sunday, August 17, 1986. As the carnies made their way out of Myrtle Point, the entire town was filled with a sense of dismay. Everyone was talking about what could have happened to the Bright boy. Whispers soon gave way to rumors and people began pointing the finger at one another. The question still remained, though, where was Jeremy Bright?

One of the rumors puts Jeremy Bright at a Myrtle Point party. While there, the 14-year-old was given a beer laced with a powerful and illegal drug that resulted in a fatal overdose. In this theory The other party goers, in some sort of act of solidarity, would have disposed of Jeremy’s body and made the promise to never tell a single soul.

Remember this was only a rumor nothing ever came of it and honestly it Sounds a bit to much like the plot to the movie  I know what you did last summer to me.

Another story that was making its way around the town, indicated that Jeremy argued with three older teenagers while hanging out at a local swimming hole with his friends. The boys got into a scuffle and Jeremy was severely injured. Then the boys took him ten miles out of town to a cabin in the woods, they tried to nurse him back to health but failed to save him. Then they buried him in the forest in a shallow grave. Police, however, searched the aforementioned cabin and surrounding area, and found nothing to prove any of this story.

As the weeks passed, even more stories seemed to pop up all around Myrtle Point. Cecelia Fish, who was Jeremy’s best friend’s sister, told police that she was staying at her sister’s apartment on the night of Jeremy’s disappearance. When they left the apartment around midnight, she spotted someone wandering the streets, covered in blood. But she wasn’t sure if it was Jeremy or not. She thought it had been a person who lived in the building but was unsure of that as well.

Years later, a new rumor surfaced. According to several other accounts, Jeremy was last seen sitting in the passenger seat of a young man named Terry Lee Steinhoff. Steinhoff had used to babysit Jeremy and his sister when they were younger and living in Myrtle Point full-time. This was the best lead they could hope for. Now it was only a matter of questioning Steinhoff and finding the boy…

The year was 1989, a grueling three years since Jeremy had disappeared. His case was featured on the television program Unsolved Mysteries. The show brought renewed attention to the case and to the rumors concerning Terry Lee Steinhoff. As it turned out, Steinhoff was charged with stabbing Patricia Morris, a 32-year-old mother, and leaving her for dead. Perhaps he had done the same to Jeremy Bright.

Police renewed the search and expanded the area to include the place where there might be cabins in the Oregon woods. But they found nothing. Meanwhile, Steinhoff, who was their best chance of finding Jeremy, was less than forthcoming. He knew that there was nothing more they could do to him so long as he didn’t incriminate himself…

Jeremy Bright is still missing to this day. He has scars on his forehead and nose and a mole on his chin. Unfortunately, as pressure mounted to investigate Steinhoff, he died mysteriously in prison in 2007. As such, the case is still open. However, due to the lack of evidence and Steinhoff’s reticence to talk about the boy, it is presumed that he killed Jeremy and dumped the body.

Meanwhile, Jeremy’s family has tried to move on. In 2011, they had a memorial service to Jeremy. In their minds, he is at peace, gone away from the world.

But will we ever really know what happened to Jeremy Doland Bright I don't know hopefully
